The vertical length of the upper lip differs and despite this, with a slight shortening while smiling, upper teeth can be seen. On the other hand people, with genetic deficiency in muscle tone, the upper teeth is not visible while smiling or speaking. Anyone, who wishes this length to be shorten can have a lip lift surgery and bring it to its proper position.

What Is Lip Lift Surgery?

Lip lift is a simple, mostly in-clinic surgical procedure to lift the upper lip and shorten the distance between the nose and upper lip. The aim of this procedure is to shorten the distance of the overly long upper lip.

What Are The Benefits Of Lip Lift?

The lip lift procedure has countless benefits as it preserves the youthful look. The upper lip tends to lengthen and sag by gravity just like any other parts of the face as a result of aging and coloured part of the lip turns inwardly covering the upper line of the teeth which causes the appearance of thinning of the lip and face that creates an older appearance.

By shortening the upper lip, it looks fuller and the changes are reversed, midface has an upturned and rejuvenated look.

Who Are The Ideal Candidates For Lip Lift Surgery?

Anybody who has a distance between their nose and lip is too long or the upper lip is relatively thinner would be a suitable candidates for lip lift procedure

What Is Done During Lip Lifting Surgery?

Lip lift is a rather simple and speedy operation that can be performed on its own or in combination with other procedures like rhinoplasty, face lift, etc. The procedure begins with the drawing of the upper lip according to the surgical plan. Then, local anesthetic is injected into the surgical area. Once, the area is numbed, the part of the skin right below the nose is removed. This incision is sutured and the area is covered with antibiotic ointment.

Is Anesthesia Necessary For Lip Lift Procedure?

If the only procedure is lip lift, it can be performed under local anesthesia. However, if it is combined with other surgeries then the general anesthesia is preferred.

How Permanent Are The Effects Of Lip Lift?

The results of lip lift are permanent, but the lips and overall face will continue to mature as part of the aging process.

What The Recovery Process Is Like After The Lip Lift Procedure?

Recovery period after lip lift surgery is about 5-7 days, during this time patients usually experience mild facial swelling and may experience some pain or discomfort within the first 72 hours.

Operational sutures are removed on the 10th day of the surgery and the area needs to be keptkept moist as part of the healing process. Surgery marks would disappear within a 1 year.

What Might Be The Complications Of Lip Lift Procedure?

The main complication after lip lift is usually a visible surgery mark. Therefore, patients with a history of poor scarring (hypertrophic or keloid) are not good candidates for this type of procedure. Other complications that seldomly experienced are infection in operated area, delayed healing, asymmetry, insufficient or excessive tissue removal, scar contracture, deterioration in smile, enlargement of the nostrils and deterioration of the nasal midline.

Is There An Age Limit?

There is no age limit for lip lift operation, any healthy person who does not have any challenges with wound healing (diabetes, etc.) can have a lip lift procedure.
