Get Rid of Tired Look with Eyelid Surgery

The eyes are an impressive part of the face and leave a strong first impression. However, with aging eyelids drop and sag, therefore, constantly tired and sleepy appearance is inevitable.

With Eyelid aesthetics (blepharoplasty) surgery, sagging eyelids can be eliminated in terms of both function and aesthetic.

Potential Problems in Eyelids

  • Sagging that disrupts the usual appearance of the upper eyelid and loose skin that makes it difficult to see.
  • Fat accumulations on the eyelids
  • Under-Eye bags that occur over time due to age, sleeplessness or stress,
  • Excess skin and wrinkles on the lower eyelid.

Eligible Patients

Eyes are one of the most prominent organs on the face. Treating signs of aging in this area can create a visibly younger look. If the patients think that their eyelids are low or have under-eye bags and are uncomfortable, they can have this procedure after consultation with a plastic surgeon. Although the eyelids sag due to aging, this sagging can also occur at very young ages due to genetic predisposition. The same applies to under-eye bags.

What is eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)?

Blepharoplasty aims to restore the healthy appearance of the eyelids. This surgical process consists of two main categories.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

With this procedure, the drooping upper eyelids are removed. This eliminates both the narrow eye angle and tired appearance. Upper eyelid surgery itself is a procedure that takes 20-30 minutes with local anesthesia. Upper eyelid aesthetics are performed under sterile operating room conditions and the patient is discharged on the same day. The upper eyelid surgery can be combined with other aesthetic procedures.

Since the stitches after the procedure fall spontaneously, there is no need to remove the stitches afterward. In the first 7-10 days, edema and bruising can occur. This is quite normal.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

The lower eyelid surgery aims to repair the muscle that keeps the fat layer under the eye. If this muscle loosens or ruptures due to stress, age or sleeplessness over time, adipose tissue herniates outwards. This results in the forming of an under-eye bag. The procedure takes approximately 40 minutes with local anesthesia. This area is intervened by an incision made from the bottom of the lower lashes of the eye. A few months after the surgery, there will be no visible scar.

Stitches in this area are not removed after this procedure as well as they fall off spontaneously. Edema and bruising can occur for the first 10 days and it is recommended to apply ice after the procedure. Since the lower eyelid surgery is performed with local anesthesia, it does not require hospitalization after the procedure and patients can be discharged on the same day.

Lower eyelid surgery can be combined with upper eyelid and other aesthetic procedures.

Scars After Eyelid Surgery

The incisions for the eyelid surgery are performed in such a way that the scars are hidden with the natural look of the eyelid area.

Problems in the upper lid can be corrected by a cut in the natural fold on the eyelid. This allows the removal of fat accumulations or repositioning and tightening of muscles and removal of excess skin.

Problems in the lower eyelid can be corrected by a cut just below the lower eyelash line. This incision removes the excess skin in the lower eyelid. Again, excess fat may be repositioned or removed.
